Troodos & Rural Cyprus

Troodos is Cyprus’s largest and most scenic mountain range, rising to 1,952 metres at Mount Olympus and offering a refreshing escape into nature, tradition, and authentic village life. With pine and cedar forests, charming mountain communities, monasteries, churches, wineries, and nature trails, the region reveals a peaceful and traditional side of the island.

The mountains stretch across the heart of Cyprus, from the Paphos Forest towards the Machairas area near Nicosia. This beautiful landscape is filled with dense forests, quiet valleys, fresh mountain air, and panoramic views that make Troodos ideal for sightseeing, relaxation, walking, and rural exploration.

The region is dotted with picturesque villages, each with its own character, legends, architecture, and local traditions. From the wine-producing villages north of Limassol and Paphos to the forest-surrounded communities of Platres and Kakopetria, Troodos offers visitors a genuine taste of Cypriot hospitality and culture.

Troodos is also home to important religious and heritage sites, including historic monasteries, Byzantine churches, and UNESCO-protected landmarks. Visitors can also discover leading wineries, traditional restaurants, local tavernas, agro-touristic lodgings, and small boutique properties that reflect the charm of rural Cyprus.

During winter, the higher slopes of Troodos can receive snow, creating opportunities for skiing near Mount Olympus from late November to early March. With Limassol’s coastline located less than an hour away, the region offers the unique possibility of enjoying the mountains and the sea on the same day.

Troodos highlights include Mount Olympus, Kykkos Monastery, Caledonia Waterfalls, Kakopetria, UNESCO-protected Byzantine churches, Platres, Omodos Village, Paphos Forest, Cedar Valley, and the Mouflon Reserve.
